Learn From My Boating Snafu

When it comes to sailing, one of the most important elements is having a checklist. I learned this lesson the hard way when I took my new boat out to sea. I’m embarrassed to tell this story, but this is an important lesson that will help your luxury real estate business excel.

I indeed took my new boat out to sea without consulting any checklists. And about half a mile later, in the middle of this large bay, the engine ran out of gas because I forgot to check the gas tank. Additionally, I forgot to bring my cell phone, a life jacket, and a paddle. All of this happened early in the morning where there were no other boats around that I could ask for help. So, what did I do? I drifted, drifted, and drifted some more. I finally drifted to a dock where I was able to tie my boat. I saw landscapers working close by and bought gas from them. I filled the tank and everything went smoothly after.

I lost valuable hours of my day all because I broke a cardinal rule in boating: not having a checklist. Similarly, in your luxury real estate business, it’s important to constantly create, update, and verify checklists.
