Tree Houses and Luxury Real Estate

I have so many fond memories from my youth of the times I spent in my tree house.

In the next few weeks, I will be sharing with you ideas—as you spend more time at home than ever before—on how you can create, enhance, and hold on to this ‘treehouse feeling’.

My real estate career began about four and a half decades ago when I started my real estate company in my college dorm room. Unofficially, however, my career began way before that when I was about 8 years old.

Back then, here on Cape Cod, there were homes being built all over the place. I used to spend hours watching the carpenters and tradespeople building homes around my neighborhood.  Most of these people were very generous with their leftover materials. As a result, I had tons of scrap lumber. All around Osterville I would build houses of my own, out in the fields, in the woods, under trees, and oftentimes up in the trees.

It didn’t matter what was going on in these early years. Whenever I was having one of those days, I would retreat to one of my hastily, crudely built houses. The sunlight would filter in through the loosely fitted boards, lighting up the grain of the opposite wall and my senses would be filled with the smell of the fresh-cut wood. Slowly but surely it all became right with my world.

The Tree House Feeling

I have later described that feeling as the ‘tree house feeling’. Years later, when I sold my company, one of the first things I invested in was a tree house. I found a great tree house builder in California and I had the tree house trucked here on an 18-wheeler. I even bought the hollowed out tree trunk to go with it and set it up in my front yard. Every day when I go to work, I drive by my tree house and I am reminded about what it is that brought me into this business and why my business is so important to the people I serve.

Do Your Part

There is a lot that happens when it comes to the running of a house—both inside and out. Even if you have help with cleaners and groundskeepers, they may not be showing up these days. Everyone has to pitch in and do their part to keep your household running. Make sure you’re doing your part. Share on X
